Week 17 picks

Last week 7-7/season: 149-80-1Chiefs (2-13) at Bengals 3-11-1), noon, WIBW 13 (Cox cable 12) - Can Chiefs "win one for the Gipper'' in what could be Herm's final game as head coach? The many young Chiefs given their first chance in the league ? some well before they were ready ? owe their coach this one. Emotionally, they're capable against an equally laid-low opponent. But their talent level isn't up to the task. Bengals 31, Chiefs 28.

Giants (12-3) at Vikings (9-6), noon, KTMJ 43 (Cox cable 6) - Vikes are favored because Giants have playoff berth clinched, Minnesota doesn't. New York will rest key players, while Vikes have everything to gain. Vikings 24, Giants 21.

Panthers (11-4) at Saints (8-7), noon, DirecTV 713 - Carolina has clinched playoff spot, but needs a win to clinch first-round bye. Powerful incentive against Saints, whose only motivation is for Drew Brees to pass Dan Marino's single-season passing record with a game of 402 yards or more. Panthers 27, Saints 24.

Rams (2-13) at Falcons (10-5), noon, DirecTV 711 - Atlanta, with playoff berth clinched, finishes strong at home. Falcons 24, Rams 13.

Bears (9-6) at Texans (7-8), noon, DirecTV 710 - Bears, after back-to-back OT wins, face a must-win to be in playoffs. Bears 21, Texans 17.

Lions (0-15) at Packers (5-10) at Bears 8-6), noon, DirecTV 712 - This is Detroit's Stupor Bowl, the last chance to avoid winless infamy. When you're this bad, why not be remembered as the worst ever? Packers 28, Lions 24.

Browns (4-11) at Steelers (11-4), noon, DirecTV 704 - Playoff-bound Pitt can rest players and still win this rivalry game. Steelers 21, Browns 20.

Patriots (10-5) at Bills (7-8), noon, DirecTV 706 - New England must win to have a shot on tiebreakers. Patriots 24, Bills 21.

Raiders (4-11) at Buccaneers (9-6), noon, DirecTV 707 - Tampa Bay faces a must-win but still needs a Dallas loss to extend season. Bucs 24, Raiders 13.

Titans (13-2) at Colts (11-4), noon, DirecTV 705 - Tennessee has home-field throughout playoffs guaranteed, Colts have wild-card spot assured. Titans' B game is better than Colts' B game. Titans 24, Colts 21.

Seahawks (4-11) at Cardinals (8-7), 3:15, DirecTV 715 - Playoff-bound Arizona needs a strong tuneup after last week's loss to prepare for postseason. Cardinals 24, Seahawks 16.

Dolphins (9-6) at Jets (9-6), 3:15 p.m., WIBW 13 (Cox cable 12) - For Miami, win and you're in. New York needs a win and New England loss at Buffalo. Does Miami QB Chad Pennington put the dagger in his former team? Does Brett Favre have one more big game? The Dolphin turnaround becomes complete. Dolphins 24, Jets 21.

Cowboys (9-6) at Eagles (8-6-1), 3:15, KTMJ 43 (Cox cable 6) -For Dallas, win and you're in. Philly needs win and loss by Tampa Bay along with a loss by either Chicago or Minnesota. Romo threw for 312 and 3 TDs in Week 2 shootout, a 41-37 Dallas win. Cowboys 31, Eagles 28.

Jaguars (5-10) at Ravens (10-5), 3:15, DirecTV 717 - A win and the Ravens are in. Ravens 21, Jaguars 13.

Redskins (6-9) at 49ers (6-9), 3:15, DirecTV 714 - 49ers have won 4 of last 6, Skins snapped a late-season slide against Eagles last week. 49ers 24, Eagles 20.

Broncos (8-7) at Chargers (7-8), 7:15, KSNT 27 (Cox cable 7) - Denver blew its playoff chance in loss to Bills last week. Broncos got a break on Ed Hoculi's awful call in 38-37 Week 2 gift win in Denver. It's only appropriate that someone should win the AFC Worst at 8-8. Chargers 24, Broncos 20.
