Eric Mangini has turned the roster inside out since free agency began on Feb. 27, and he isn't finished making changes.
Ten players were added through free agency, eight through the draft and three via trade as the Browns prepared for rookie training camp. That doe
sn't include any undrafted rookies that might find their way to the roster.
Tight end Kellen Winslow Jr., traded to Tampa Bay in February, will be replaced by 11-year veteran Steve Heiden, second-year player Martin Rucker or Robert Royal, the tight end from the Bills signed in free agency.
The Browns are looking for a starting receiver opposite Braylon Edwards. Veteran David Patten, rookie Brian Robiskie and rookie Mohamed Massaquoi are all additions to the team.
Mangini might be changing 60 percent of the offensive line. First-round draft pick Alex Mack a center/guard, offensive tackle John St. Clair and guard Floyd Womack are new to the Browns. Rookie running back James Davis replaced Jason Wright.
"Overall we're pleased with the things we've been able to do," Mangini said. "It's not something where you sit back and say 'OK, here we are, let's move forward. This will be the group going into the season.' Now it's a function of evaluating how they fit, how they contribute, what their role is, and once they make that decision for us, then we move forward."
Eric Barton, one of seven former Jets acquired by Mangini, replaces Andra Davis at inside linebacker. Kenyon Coleman, acquired in the first round trade with the Jets, will battle with Robaire Smith and Corey Williams for two starting end jobs.
The starting left outside linebacker will be different. Whether it is second-year player Alex Hall or rookie David Veikune, the player selected with the second-round pick acquired from the Jets in the draft, or David Bowens, a free agent signee from the Jets, will unfold in training camp.
Abram Elam is the new safety. He also was part of the blockbuster trade with the Jets in the first round of the draft.
