Romeo Crennel is one game from ending his fourth season as the Browns' coach, and one loss from his 40th.
If Crennel loses to the Pittsburgh Steelers for the eighth time in eight games, he will have averaged a 6-10 record for four seasons as coach.
That more than likely will not be good enough for him to keep his job. Sunday's 14-0 shutout loss to the lowly Bengals may have been the final straw.
The Browns were using Ken Dorsey at quarterback, but they showed little life or competitiveness in the loss.
Crennel could only use words like "frustrating" and "disappointing" to describe the outcome. He seemed near helpless to do anything to turn around a season that has become dismal.
"The worst I've ever been through," said running back Jamal Lewis. And Lewis said that despite topping 10,000 yards for his career, which should show just how bad the season has been.
