Cleveland Browns Notes, Quotes 2009-02-09
--After the Browns scored 402 points in 2007, offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski was mentioned as a possible head coach elsewhere. He returned to run an offense that went the final six games without an offensive touchdown in 2008, and he appears to be out of a job, at least in Cleveland.

Two days after Eric Mangini was named the Browns' head coach, Chudzinski was interviewing for the offensive coordinator job with the 49ers. Things change quickly. Back in June, Browns TE Kellen Winslow Jr. declared Chudzinski "a genius." Seven months later, he was no longer with the organization.

--During the six-game drought, Brady Quinn started one game, Derek Anderson one, Ken Dorsey three and Bruce Gradkowski one. The last two were shutouts. Going back to 1950, the Browns had never been shut out in back-to-back games.

--K Phil Dawson finished 2008 with 108 points. It is the fourth time in five years he finished with more than 100. His 36 field-goal attempts were a career high. He made 30 of them. Three of his misses were beyond 50 yards.

--When Mangini takes a close look at what happened to his new team in 2008, he might conclude the Browns have to be in better condition. They were outscored just 51-46 in the first quarter, but they were swamped in the second quarter, 119-76. The lopsided scoring continued in the second half. They were outscored 74-29 in the third quarter and 106-82 in the fourth.

--Fourteen players caught passes for the Browns in 2008. That represents good ball distribution, but five of those players caught five or fewer passes.

--Five of the 12 losses suffered by the Browns were dealt by three of the four teams remaining in the playoffs. The Ravens beat them twice, the Steelers beat them twice and the Eagles beat them once.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Throughout the course of my career, I've been very lucky. I had really great mentors. I've been a part of very special organizations, and I learned a lot along the way." -- New Browns coach Eric Mangini, on having coached under Bill Belichick and Bill Parcells.
