Cowboys add a safety Team finalizes roster by claiming ex-TCU player Marvin White

The Cowboys claimed a safety off waivers Sunday and set their practice squad.

Marvin White was acquired to complete the 53-man active roster. White started 10 games for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2008 before a torn ACL and MCL ended his season. White finished his college career at TCU and was a fourth round pick in the '07 draft.

White recorded 68 tackles last season. He is regarded as a ferocious hitter who is suspect in coverage. In that regard, he is similar to Roy Williams, the former Cowboys safety who requested his release and signed with Cincinnati in May.

The addition of White gives the Cowboys nine defensive backs. The club needed depth because rookie safety Michael Hamlin is out for up to six weeks with a broken wrist and cornerback Alan Ball, who also plays safety, missed the final pre-season game with a concussion.

Holley among practice squad signees: Eight players the Cowboys cut Saturday were signed to the practice squad. They are guard Travis Bright, quarterback Rudy Carpenter, tight end Scott Chandler, fullback Julius Crosslin, defensive end Marcus Dixon, cornerback Mike Mickens, receiver Manuel Johnsonand reality show contestant winner Jesse Holley.

Smith, Stanback find teams: Safety DeAngelo Smith, a fifth-round pick released by the club, was claimed by Cleveland.

Receiver Isaiah Stanback signed with New England's practice squad and will get the opportunity to return to his original quarterback position.
