Cowher's 'NFL Today' ignores NFL tomorrow
With Bill Cowher in the house, CBS' "NFL Today" studio show shed as much light on his intentions as you'd find in a mine shaft after a cave-in.

Many highlights were shown. Lots of predictions were made. Jock talk abounded among host James Brown, Cowher, Dan Marino, Shannon Sharpe and Boomer Esiason. But there was nothing from Cowher on his plans for next season.

Everyone says Cowher isn't likely to coach in 2009 - everyone except CBS.

Steelers owner Dan Rooney told The Plain Dealer that last week. Every network "insider" suggests as much. Most recently, it was Fox Sports' Jay Glazer, whose report saying Cowher wouldn't coach in Cleveland in 2009 no matter how much money was offered was cited on profootballtalk.com early Sunday.

Even with direct access to Cowher, CBS was careful not to let any journalism get in the way of its good time.

The only mention of the Browns' situation was when former general manager Charlie Casserly said during the pre-game show that he didn't expect either GM Phil Savage or head coach Romeo Crennel to return. The team confirmed Sunday night that owner Randy Lerner had fired Savage.

Surely, as the host of a show on the final regular-season Sunday, James Brown would follow the Casserly segment by asking Cowher about his intentions - even if Cowher refused to comment.

But apparently the network doesn't care if it finishes as far behind the pack in delivering insider information on Cowher as the Browns finished behind the Steelers in the AFC North.

As someone once said, "Heckuva job, Brownie."
