The Browns have hired former University of Minnesota receivers coach George McDonald to be their offensive quality control coach.
Before spending the past two seasons as the Golden Gophers receivers coach, McDonald, 32, held the same job at Western Michigan for one season. He has also coached at Stanford, Northern Illinois and Bucknell. McDonald is one of about four or five coaches head coach Eric Mangini still plans to add. Mangini hopes to have his staff completed by the start of the NFL scouting combine next week in Indianapolis.
While at Minnesota, McDonald helped Gophers receiver Eric Decker break the school's single-season record for receptions on two occasions. He had 67 catches in 2007 and 84 last season.
McDonald was a four-year letterman at Illinois, where as a wide receiver he caught 59 passes for 589 yards.
