Anderson was out with a concussion he suffered when Pro Bowl defensive end Osi Umenyiora sacked him early in the second quarter of Monday's 37-34 loss to the New York Giants. Anderson didn't visit the Browns practice field Wednesday and hasn't talked to reporters since the game.

Running back Jamal Lewis (hamstring), receiver Braylon Edwards (foot), kick returner Joshua Cribbs (ankle), safety Brodney Pool (concussion) and linebacker Willie McGinest (groin) also didn't practice.

All but Edwards were hurt in Monday's loss.

"Usually on a concussion, sometimes you're a little sensitive to light," coach Romeo Crennel said, referring to both Anderson and Pool. "We're going to let them rest for a day or so, then see where they are."

Brady Quinn, the 22nd pick in the 2007 draft, replaced Anderson and was 7-for-12 for 124 yards, including a 44-yard TD pass to Syndric Steptoe in the third quarter. Although Saturday's game against the Lions is just another exhibition, Quinn said he's looking forward to his first NFL start.

"It's a good opportunity for me to get more reps, more playing time," he said.

The Browns, 10-6 last season, are a popular preseason pick to make the playoffs. They entered Monday night with a swagger, but walked out of Giants Stadium humbled.

"We didn't look sharp at all," center Hank Fraley said. "We definitely wanted to put on a better show, especially on Monday night, playing against New York, the defending Super Bowl champs."

The first-team offense managed just a 56-yard Phil Dawson field goal on its first possession. It didn't get a first down on the next five possessions and had a fumble returned 95 yards for a touchdown.

The defense gave up two passing touchdowns, and the special teams also struggled. Dave Zastudil had a punt blocked for a safety, and Domenik Hixon returned the ensuing free kick 82 yards for a touchdown.
