Browns ANALYSIS

The Cleveland Jets?

To Eric Mangini, it has a nice ring to it.

In his first two months on the job, the Browns coach has:

Hired former Jets coaches Brian Daboll (offensive coordinator), Brad Seely (special teams), Bryan Cox (defensive line), Andy Dickerson (defensive quality control), Jerome Henderson (defensive backs) and Rick Lyle (strength and conditioning).

Signed ex-Jets backup defensive lineman, C.J. Mosley.

Signed ex-Jets backup cornerback, Hank Poteat.

Signed ex-Jets linebacker David Bowens.

Added Erin O'Brien, his former assistant with the Jets, as director of team operations.

Added Dawn Aponte, a former Jets salary cap administrator, as vice president of Football administration.

Who's next?

The Browns reportedly have signed Jets safety Abram Elam to a one-year offer sheet. The Jets have one week to match the offer for the restricted free agent or will lose him without draft choice compensation.

There is another Jets linebacker, Eric Barton, who are unrestricted and has visited and negotiated with the Browns.

After that?

There is no truth to the rumor that Joe Namath has been seen at the Browns' facility.

When owner Randy Lerner hired General Manager George Kokinis after already naming Mangini head coach, there was a lot of talk about exactly who would be calling the shots.

In order to leave the Baltimore Ravens, Kokinis was given the contract language of having final say on the team's Football operations. That language must have been printed in pencil.

The irony of loading his team with former Jets is this: In Mangini's three seasons as Jets head coach, he was 0-2 against the Browns and 1-0 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

If he can maintain that unblemished record, Browns fans probably wouldn't care if he changed their beloved uniforms to green.
