Pontbriand is added to Pro Bowl squad

Making the Pro Bowl has been a snap for the Browns' Ryan Pontbriand these past two seasons. Pontbriand, the Browns' long snapper, Wednesday was added to the AFC squad for the second straight year as a need player.

He joins teammates defensive tackle Shaun Rogers and offensive left tackle Joe Thomas for the Feb. 8 game in Honolulu. In addition, Joshua Cribbs remains a first alternate at two positions: return specialist and special teams utility player.

"I'm honored to be selected for the AFC Pro Bowl roster for the second year in a row," Pontbriand said. "This is the ultimate recognition of performance during the season for a position that receives so few accolades. I'm extremely excited to spend some time in Hawaii with my teammates, my wife Nicole, and my brand-new daughter, Avery."

A fifth-round pick in 2003 out of Rice, Pontbriand remains one of Butch Davis' better draft picks. In 2008, he was a key member of the special teams unit that helped kicker Phil Dawson achieve a pair of milestones.

With a 27-yard field goal against Philadelphia on Dec. 15, Dawson set a team record with 30 field goals in a season, eclipsing Matt Stover's mark of 29, set in 1995. Pontbriand also snapped on Dawson's longest career field goal, a 56-yard game-winner in a 29-27 victory over Buffalo on a Monday night game. He also helped punter Dave Zastudil to his most prolific career season, notching a career-best 45.5 average and 39.4 net average.

Communication director leaving: Another 10-year employee of the Browns' public relations staff is history.

Amy Palcic said she is leaving her post as Browns communications director. Ken Mather, Browns information director, was laid off a week ago.

Palcic, whose father, Bob, was the expansion Browns' original offensive line coach, had been with the organization since 1999. She was one of the few females to hold the position of communication director in the NFL.

Kain joins CAA: Former IMG chief executive Bob Kain, who left the Browns on Monday as vice chairman and adviser to owner Randy Lerner, has joined Creative Artists Agency as a strategic adviser to their sports divisions.

In a statement, CAA said Kain will work closely with its sports management team to create business initiatives for its clients and for the agency. Kain told Sports Business Journal that he's known CAA President Richard Lovett for years and that the two have long talked of working together.

Kain worked for Lerner for 2? years, assisting on the purchase of the Aston Villa soccer team of the English Premier League and helping to retool the Browns.
