Guys like sixth-round pick Coye Francies and undrafted Akron kick returner Bryan Williams will be happy to discover at Browns rookie camp today that they'll be given as much of a shot to make the team as center Alex Mack, a first-round pick.

"Once they're in the door, no matter where they were drafted, how they were drafted, everybody is equal and we'll judge them based on what they do," said Browns coach Eric Mangini on Sunday night after the draft. "[When] we go into the rookie weekend, I tell them all the same thing: It doesn't matter how you got here, it just matters what you do."

Mangini cited the case of Jets special teams ace Wallace Wright, who tried out during the Jets' rookie camp in 2006 after going undrafted out of North Carolina.

"The guy comes in, he's literally on a three-day job interview, five practices in three days, and he was good enough to take somebody's contract at that point," said Mangini. "He made the roster initially, went to the practice squad, and made the roster the next year. He's becoming a better and better special teams player and developing into a nice receiver as well. The great thing is the opportunity just to get in the door. Once they're here, they're all Browns ."

It will be music to the ears of the 37 or so undrafted rookies and tryout players who will join the Browns' eight draft picks for workouts the next two days.

"They've all got a lot of work to do, and they've all got to come in and figure out: 'How can I make the team?' That's first," said Mangini. "Then prove to us that they can contribute on the 53 [-man roster], the 45 [-man roster] and what their role is going to be."

Besides getting their first look at draft picks such as Mack, receivers Brian Robiskie and Mohamed Massaquoi, and linebacker David Veikune, the Browns will give players such as Texas Tech rookie quarterback Graham Harrell a chance to perhaps sign a free-agent contract after the camp.

Ruud claimed: The Browns on Thursday were awarded linebacker Bo Ruud off waivers from the Patriots and released running back Allen Patrick. Ruud, a sixth-round pick of the Patriots last year out of Nebraska, spent his rookie season on injured reserve with an ankle injury. At Nebraska, Ruud (6-3, 235) started 33 games, totaling 216 tackles.
